Preparations for Remembrance

Saturday 29th October saw nearly 80 of our young people spend the day at the Willow Brook Centre helping with this year’s Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

They made 10 boxes of traditional poppies to give to the public in return for donations to the charity and by the end of the day, the collecting pots had become so heavy that two of them snapped their string handles!

We also made our own poppies to decorate a tree in the main foyer to symbolise the dead trees left behind in the aftermath of the Battle of the Somme that is commemorating its centenary year.

We decorated the windows of the main entrance and over at the Boots store again with our giant poppies that everyone had helped create last year.

Finally, the war memorial had its annual spring clean. Our young volunteers even used tooth brushes to get into every corner and, as always, were very liberal with the bubbles! The town square is now ready for Remembrance Sunday which is coming up on 13th November.
